Patricia Smith Ryall

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Patricia Smith Ryall of Webster Street, died peacefully at her home of 66 years, on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. She was 88. Born on April 11, 1928 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Jordan) Smith of Jumel Place. A graduate of St. Clement’s Elementary School, Saratoga Springs High School and the Eastman School of Dental Hygiene, she was married to the late Owen J. Ryall for 53 years, until his passing on May 21, 2002. Employed for several years as a dental hygienist for the late Dr. Leo W. Roohan, Jr., she also worked for the Saratoga Springs City School District. A proud mother for her four sons, Patricia was a member of the Katrina Trask Garden Club, the Saratoga-Wilton B.P.O. Elks Lodge 161 Ladies Auxiliary and Court McLaughlin #422 Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Having taken pottery classes at Skidmore College, she created many beautiful pieces of art and as an avid fan of the Saratoga Race Course, she enjoyed her days spinning there each summer. In addition to her parents and late husband, she is predeceased by one son, Joseph Ryall; her sister, Shirley Garnsey and two brothers, Jack and Jerry Smith. Survivors include three sons, James (Stephanie) Ryall, Patrick Ryall and John (Patricia) Ryall; her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Beverly Smith; five grandchildren, including Benjamin who helped care for his grandmother in her final years; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank Dr. Desmond DelGiacco for his unwavering care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Relatives and friends gathered to remember her on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the William J. Burke and Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway in Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, July 6 in St. Clement’s Church in Saratoga Springs. Burial followed at the Gerald B.H. Investigation into the matter led to the arrest of Julia H.
