Shirley Silver Black
SARATOGA SPRINGS — Shirley Silver Black (nee Hankin) passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Brooklyn on September 11, 1923 to the late Beatrice and Sam Hankin.
She married Aaron J. Silver in 1945 and lived in New York City until they moved to Saratoga Springs in 1955 so Aaron could continue to work at Espey Manufacturing. Shirley was an assistant Brownie Leader in the mid 50’s and an active member in the League of Women Voters. After Aaron’s untimely passing in 1971, she went back to work, first at Berkowitz Jewelers then on to Espey until she retired. She met and married Robert A. Black in 1976 and they enjoyed 20 happy years together until Bob’s death in 1996. Shirley had a wealth of good humor and kindness, loved her family and friends well, and was loved in return. A paragon of good taste, creative and optimistic, she lived a long, full and happy life. She enjoyed the fine arts and was a gifted painter herself.
She is survived by her loving family who shall miss her greatly: brother Sheldon Hankin of Seattle, WA, daughters Lynn Leslie Silver of Springfield, NJ, Sandie Perone and son-in-law Louis (Chip) Perone of Queensbury, grandsons Alexander Perone, George Perone and his wife Alexandria Perone, great-grandchildren Sophia Lynn and Noah Mario Perone, nephews Mark Hankin and his wife Denice Kerr, Miles Hankin, niece Sanda Kurtz and her husband Hugh Moore as well as a step-daughter, Gaye Mara and her husband Andy.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her husbands and sister Phyllis Kurtz.
