BALLSTON SPA — On Tuesday, Sept. 10 the Scotties varsity girls’ soccer team defeated Columbia 3-2.
“I thought it was a competitive back and forth game that saw great athleticism, awareness, and saves by both keepers,” said Coach Brian Retersdorf.
At half time Columbia was in the lead 2-1 but the Scotties fought back in the second half with force from the offense and a strong support from the defense. Pressure on the goal came from both teams, as Shaylee Andress, Ballston Spa’s goalie, had 15 saves throughout the game, while Kyra Russo, Columbia’s goalie, saved 22.
“Our girls never got down on themselves and their resiliency to push through struggling moments during the game is one of their biggest strengths,” said coach Retersdorf.
Forty-three seconds into the second half, midfielder Mikayla Kelly tied the game with her goal with an assist from Jordyn Ostander. Kelley later assisted Keira Dashnow who scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime. Coach Retersdorf attributes this triumph to the team’s resiliency.
The Scotties’ next home game will be Tuesday, October 1, at 4:15 p.m.
