Friday, June 17 Pasta & Meatball Fundraiser Dinner Principessa Elena Society, 13 Oak St., Saratoga Springs, 5 – 7 p.m. Support The Children's Museum as you enjoy a delicious Italian meal! Curtis Lumber’s PetAPalooza Pet Adoption Day Various Curtis Lumber locations in New York and Vermont, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Each store will host multiple animal shelters/rescue groups with many adoption rates lowered for the day. Hundreds of animals from over 80 shelters and rescue groups will be available for adoption including cats, dogs, rabbits and birds. There will also be pet service providers in attendance such as local veterinarians, groomers, pet sitters and trainers offering valuable discounts off their services. Other events include a low-cost micro-chipping clinic, dog house and 50/50 raffles, WTEN’s Steve Caporizzo’s Pet Connection and more. Free face painting, animal balloon twisting and pet caricatures for kids and the young at heart. Last year’s event resulted in over 400 animals finding new forever homes. Yaddo Garden Tour Yaddo, Main Fountain near Entrance, Saratoga Springs, Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. Tours of Garden only include sharing the history of the Trask Family, the Mansion and history of the Yaddo Gardens. Saratoga Relay for Life Saratoga Springs High School, 1 Blue Streaks Blvd., Saratoga Springs,1 pm Relay for Life is the National Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Admission is free and it is a family experience with music, games, walking the ¾ mile track to help “Midsummer Dream of NO Cancer”. Survivors walk the track first, then everyone joins in with them, and there are food trucks for reasonably priced food. Locks of Love will be going on for anyone wishing to donate at least 6” of hair to the program that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair. Genealogy and Local History Town of Saratoga Town Hall, Corner of Rt. 4 and Rt.29, Schuylerville, 1 p.m. Timothy Myers will lead the program about transforming family history research into book form. Tim will share the process he used in creating “The Myers Family History.” He included more than just names and dates, by adding personal recollections, family stories, photos and documents. Pierre Zimmerman, MS who facilitates this group has been working with people who have cancer for the last 12 years, leading support groups, mindfulness based stress reduction programs and spiritual retreats. McDonald Community Room, Crandall Library, Glens Falls, 7 p.m. Margo Olson will present as part of the monthly program of the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society (SASS). The presentation will cover the formation of the Preserve & Park, the fire-dependent Sandplains ecosystem, the natural history of the Karner blue butterfly, and an overview of other threatened species. The presentation will also cover the benefits of the early successional habitat that is being created for a host of important bird species.
