Connecting Students With Workforce Experiences

By Staff Report | Business

BALLSTON SPA – Students will have the opportunity to connect with workforce experiences during a business and education informational session at TEC-SMART in Malta on September 30.

Information will be presented on how businesses can partner with the Clean Technologies Early College High School (ECHS) and offer opportunities that provide real world work experiences for the students, including mentoring, job shadowing, tours and other related career exploration experiences.

Currently, over 110 students from 20 area high schools are enrolled in the program for the fall semester. The Clean Tech ECHS continues to develop support from local, regional as well as national organizations and has expanded to include over 25 business and industry partners. A $2.6 million dollar, seven year NYS Pathways in Technology Early College High School (NYS P-TECH) grant was recently awarded by the Governor’s Office to expand the Clean Tech ECHS and serve additional students from throughout the region.

Speakers include education and business leaders as well as 11th and 12th grade students from the Clean Tech ECHS who will speak about their experiences in the program.

The program is open to business professionals as well as the educational community. The program starts with a complimentary breakfast and networking from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 8 a.m. Optional tours of the Early College High School and TEC-SMART will be available at 9 am.

Partnering organizations for the event include Hudson Valley Community College, Ballston Spa Central School District, NYSERDA, Center for Economic Growth, Saratoga Economic Development Corporation, Gilbane Inc. and the Saratoga County Chamber. The Ballston Spa CSD started the program in 2011 with HVCC and NYSERDA at the college’s TEC-SMART in the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP) in Malta.

Registration is free and still available. Additional information, a link to registration and an agenda are located on the Clean Tech Early College High School website at www.bscsd.org
