Northshire to Have Grand Opening

“I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.”

SARATOGA SPRINGS— This weekend there will be books, books and more books, and a whole lot of fun.

This weekend is the official grand opening of Northshire Bookstore, located in the Washington Building at 424 Broadway and there will be a number of activities for everyone beginning at noon on Sunday and running until 5 p.m.

“We have a lot happening,” said Community Events Coordinator, Rachel Persons. “There will be something for everyone.”

Northshire opened their second location in August 5 after being coaxed to open a local store through a petition started by resident Pat Friesen. They have had a bookstore in Manchester, Vermont for the last 37 years, which is renowned as a destination location.

The people of Saratoga have given us a tremendously warm welcome throughout the process of getting the store open,” said Chris Morrow, co-owner of the bookstore who literally grew up in the Vermont bookstore.  “We are excited and honored to be a part of this community. I hope people come down to our grand opening and have fun.”

Small samples of treats from Kilwins, which also is in the Washington Building and which also opened at the about the same time, will be served during the grand opening.

On September 11, Northshire Bookstore was honored with an Independent Spirit Award from the Book Publishers Representatives of New England, celebrating the store’s “tenacity” and “undeniably dedicated staff.”

The store also has some big name authors coming. On October 17, Northshire Bookstore will be featuring “Off the Shelf: Authors in Conversation featuring with Anne Rice and special guest Christopher Rice” at the Saratoga Hilton. Rice, one of America’s most read and celebrated authors known for her entertaining and challenging novels, along with New York Times best selling author Christopher Rice is the author of four New York Times bestsellers. The son of author Anne Rice and the late poet Stan Rice, he was raised in New Orleans.
