Peter Frank Lahm
GANSEVOORT – Peter Frank Lahm, age 62, a passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at Mary’s Haven in Saratoga Springs.
Peter was born on November 11, 1953 in Brooklyn to Edward J. Lahm and Sofia (Yudt) Lahm. Peter grew up in Middle Village NY, and spent summers and weekends in Eaton’s Neck, NY. Peter eventually moved to Eaton’s Neck because of his love for the water and he became a commercial fisherman. It was there that he met his wife, Eileen. They were married and resided on Long Island until they moved to Gansevoort in 2002.
Peter was a graduate of Adelphi University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon leaving the shellfish industry, Peter explored many careers, including nursing. Peter also became a certified gemologist, earning a certificate from the Gemological Institute of America, which led him to buying and selling jewelry. Upon his arrival in Gansevoort, he started his own business, Lahm’s Lawn and Landscape, which he enjoyed doing up until his death.
Peter had a love for the outdoors and a zest for life. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping, landscaping and playing horseshoes and pool with his family and friends. He also spent many winters in Costa Rica where he has a second home. Peter touched the lives of all that knew him.
Peter was preceded in death by his father, Edward J. Lahm and his brother-in-law, Stephen Cooney. Peter is survived by his wife Eileen (Cooney) Lahm, his 2 sons, Ryan Lahm, and Kevin Lahm, all of Gansevoort, his mother, Sofia Lahm of Newport, RI, his sister Cindy (Lahm) Kinnane and her husband Craig of Portsmouth RI, his brother-in-law Michael Cooney and his wife Julie of Matthews, NC, his brother-in-law Gerald Cooney and his wife Jennifer of Fanwood, NJ, his brother-in-law Thomas Cooney and his wife Patricia of Olive Bridge, NY, and his sister-in-law Madeleine Cooney of Coram, NY. He is also survived by many other family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and his friends. In addition, he leaves behind his beloved pets, Champ, Duke, Moe and Chico.
Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the William J. Burke and Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A funeral home service will follow at 4 p.m. and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Donations in his memory may be made to Mary’s Haven, 35 New St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, where he spent his final weeks of life lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff and volunteers.
