Julianne Pappas

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Julianne Pappas, 71, a resident of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Thursday morning, June 5, at her residence.

Julie was born in San Francisco, California on March 11, 1943, the daughter of Alex and Christine Jouthas. She was married to Ernest (Ernie) Pappas for 50 years, having met in the youth group of the Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Oakland, California.

Both Ernie and Julie were longtime residents of the San Francisco, California Bay Area, having resided in Lafayette, Moraga, Los Altos and the Almaden area of San Jose and finally in Gilroy, upon Ernie’s retirement in June 2000.

Julie and Ernie moved to Saratoga Springs in December of 2011 to be near their son, Chris, and his family. Clearly, her grandchildren were the light of her life, and living down the street from Aris and Leila in her later years brought incredible joy and memories for her and the children.

To best describe what Julie was all about, her close friend said succinctly, “I do not know if Julie ever met somebody who did not love her generosity, sincerity and her engaging, selfless and unpretentious manner.”

In short, she was loved by whoever she met. Julie was an avid antique collector, gardener and a lover of the Old West history and culture. She devoted considerable time to fund raising activities for Woodside Priory School, where Chris attended and to the Stanford University Men’s Basketball team.

Julie was predeceased by her mother and father, Alex and Christine Jouthas and her brother, Ronald Jouthas.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest; her son, Christopher; daughter in law, Alexis; grandson, Aris; and granddaughter, Leila.

Calling hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening, June 10 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A Trisagion Service will be conducted at 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at the funeral home and burial will be announced at a later time.

Online remembrances may be made at burkefuneralhome.com.
