Saratoga YMCA Gymnastics Team Competes at 2023 NY State YMCA Gymnastics Championships

WATERTOWN — The Saratoga Springettes YMCA Gymnastics team attended the 2023 YMCA Gymnastics State Championships at the Jefferson Community College, hosted by the Watertown YMCA, on April 29 and 30. 

Six YMCA gymnastics teams from across the state attended including the Cortland, Glens Falls, Glow, Lakewood, Oneonta, Saratoga and Watertown YMCAs. 45 athletes attended from Saratoga in Levels 2-8 competition.

In the team competition, the levels 3, 4, and 8 teams placed first. The levels 2 and 7 teams placed second overall, while the level 5 team placed third overall.

Saratoga had 10 girls place first in the all-around, taking home the State Championship, including Brooke Whitman (level 2, age 8A), Lena Orden (level 2, age 10), Avery McCrindle (level 3, age 9), Rylan Keller (level 3, age 10), Lyla Ross (level 3, age 11), Carson Cicardi (level 4, age 8-11), Rilynn Reeves (level 4, age 12-14), Elsie-Anna Williams (level 5, age 12-14), Alyssa Glaser (level ,7 age 16-17), and Sydney Crombach (level 8, senior age division). 

Graduating seniors were recognized for their years of gymnastics in the YMCA program.  Saratoga had three graduating seniors: Annie Munn, Sarah Mosher, and Samantha Tennyson. 

Team Coaches had the opportunity to nominate athletes from their team for character awards, and from Saratoga Level 4, Alexandra Crombach was chosen for the “Honesty” Character Award.

Individual results (individuals placing in the top 6): 

Level 2 ages 6-7: Margot Gamicchia placed 2nd on vault, 5th on bars, 3rd on beam, 2nd on floor, and 3rd all-around. 

Level 2 ages 8A: Brooke Whitman placed 1st on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 1st on floor, and 1st all-around.   Hailey Mahoney placed 4th on vault, 3rd on bars, 1st on beam, 3rd on floor and 2nd all-around.  Emma Homicz placed 5th on vault, 4th on bars, 4th on beam, 2nd on floor, and 3rd all-around.  Harlowe Querbes placed 2nd on vault, 5th on bars, 3rd on beam, 5th on floor, and 4th all-around.  MacKenzie Brault placed 3rd on vault, 6th on bars, 5th on beam, 4th on floor and 5th all-around. 

Level 2 age 8B: Hunter Barrett placed 3rd on vault, 3rd on bars, 3rd on beam, 2nd on floor, and 3rd all-around.  Keveela Russell placed 5th on vault, 6th on beam, 3rd on floor and 5th all-around. 

Level 2 age 9: Ava Tabakman placed 1st on vault, 2nd on bars, 2nd on beam, 1st on floor and 2nd all-around.  Stella Christiansen placed 5th on vault, 5th on bars, 4th on beam, 4th on floor and 4th all-round.  Makenna Rutherford laced 6th on vault, 6th on bars, 6th on floor and 6th all around.  Gracen Lemos placed 4th on vault, and 6th on beam. 

Level 2 age 10: Lena Orden placed 1st on vault, 1st on bars, 1st on beam, 1st on floor, and 1st all-around. Mia Nesbitt placed 5th on vault, 5th on bars, 3rd on beam, 5th on floor and 5th all-around.

Level 2 age 11 and up: Brooklyn Barnes placed 3rd on vault, 3rd on bars, 1st on beam, 4th on floor and 3rd all-around. 

Level 3 age 9: Avery McCrindle placed 1st on bars, 4th on beam, 1st on floor and 1st all-around. Collins Hewitt placed 6th on bars, 1st on beam, 4th on floor and 4th all-around. Eileigh Izbicki placed 3rd on bars, 6th on floor and 6th all-around. Catherine Freeh placed 2nd on bars. 

Level 3 age 10: Rylan Keller placed 1st on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 2nd on floor and 1st all-around. Madison Armstrong placed 2nd on bars, 1st on beam, 1st on floor and 2nd all-around. Lily Straight placed 2nd on vault, 3rd on beam, and 4th all-around. Olivia Delaney placed 6th on beam, 5th on floor and 6th all-around. 

Level 3 age 11: Lyla Ross placed 3rd on vault, 3rd on bars, 1st on beam, 1st on floor and 1st all-around. Madelyn Lis placed 2nd on vault, 2nd on bars, 3rd on beam, 2nd on floor and 2nd all-around. Maeve Herrick placed 1st on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 6th on floor and 4th all-around. Madelyn Lawson placed 4th on vault, 4th on bars, 2nd on beam, 6th on floor and 4th all-round.

Level 4 age 8-11: Carson Cicardi placed 1st on vault, 2nd on bars, 2nd on beam, 2nd on floor and 1st all-around. Alexandra Crombach placed 3rd on vault, 1st on bars, 3rd on beam, 6th on floor and 3rd all-around. Mia Schaefer placed 5th on vault, 5th on bars, 1st on beam, 1st on floor, and 4th all-around. Avaleigh Glaser placed 6th on vault, 6th on bars, and 6th on beam. 

Level 4 age 12-14: Rilynn Reeves placed 1st on vault, bars, beam, vault and the all around.  Mikaela Andrade placed 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars, 2nd on beam, 2nd on vault, and 2nd all-around.

Level 5 age 12-14: Elsie-Anna Williams placed 4th on vault, 3rd on bars, 1st on beam, 5th on floor and 1st all-around. Amelia Covey Placed 4th on bars, 6th on beam, 1st on floor and 5th all-around.

Level 7 ages 13-15: Meaghan Lynch placed 1st on vault, 4th on bars, 3rd on beam, 1st on floor and 3rd all-around.

Level 7 ages 16-17: Alyssa Glaser placed 2nd on vault, 1st on bars, 1st on beam, 2nd on floor and 1st all-around. Alexi Glaser placed 3rd on vault, 3rd on bars, 3rd on beam, 3rd on floor, and 3rd all-around. Annie Munn placed 4th on vault, 2nd on bars, 6th on beam, 4th on floor and 4th all-around. Lia Mahar placed 6th on bars, and 2nd on beam. 

Level 8 senior: Sydney Crombach placed 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars, 4th on beam, 1st on floor, and 1st all-around. Katie Elder placed 3rd on vault, 6th on bars, 1st on beam, 2nd on floor and 2nd all-around. Sarah Mosher placed 4th on vault, 5th on bars, 3rd on beam, 4th on floor and 4th all-around. Erin Ward placed 2nd on bars, 5th on floor and 4th all-around. Samantha Tennyson placed 4th on bars, and 6th all-around.

Investigation into the matter led to the arrest of Julia H.
