Written by Staff Report
SARATOGA SPRINGS –Mayor Joanne D. Yepsen announced on Monday, March 17 that the City of Saratoga Springs has received formal designation as a “Vietnam War Commemorative Partner” from the United States Department of Defense (DOD). “Saratoga Springs has a proud tradition of honoring her veteran community. The City has long been at the forefront of such commemorations in the past, most recently in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, and again in 2003 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice,” Mayor Yepsen noted. “The designation, the first bestowed on a local government in Upstate New York, was awarded following the preparation and submission of a Commemorative Partner Program Application to DOD by the City’s Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Committee. We are most grateful to the Committee members for their efforts,” the Mayor said. “As a Commemorative Partner, the City will now prepare a Commemorative Program designed specifically to thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War era and their families. The Commemoration Committee is actively engaged in that process and will soon complete a recommended series of commemorative events,” Mayor Yepsen concluded.
