SARATOGA SPRINGS — A new gallery -- The Cottage of Art & Design (the Cottage) – has opened at 73 Beekman St. The collective showcases the work of six local creatives and features jewelry, fiber art, pottery, art quilts, tiles, mosaics, and paintings.
The “Cottagers” are: Amejo Amyot, creator of spiritually motivated clay work and paintings; Meg Dalton, maker of exquisitely detailed art quilts and wearables; Meryl Davis of Black Bird designs, designer and crafter of vibrant enamel jewelry and mosaics; Nancy Niefeld of Two Spruce Pottery, accomplished creator of finely crafted sculpture and pottery; Susan Rivers of Greentree Fiber Arts, practitioner of Quilted Alchemy, blending technology and tradition; and Don Shore of Lesperance Tiles, maker of artisanal tilework for installations and stand-alone art pieces.
The Cottage will be hosting “Featured Artist” receptions showcasing each partner’s work weekends throughout August and September. The Beekman Street Arts District runs from Grand Avenue to West Circular Street. Guided by the non-profit organization Saratoga Springs Arts District, Inc. (SSADI), sponsors the annual Beekman Street Art Fair held in June, Friday night pop-up art events during the warmer months, and Frostbite Friday in the winter.
Upcoming events: From 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, there will be a “Meet the Artist” featuring Susan Rivers of Greentree Fiber Arts. The shop will feature “Quilted Alchemy Magic Show” demonstrations and Artist Talk, and on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 1-3 p.m. Upcoming Featured Artist programs include: Meryl Davis, Friday, Aug. 26, highlighting mosaics and jewelry by Blackbird Designs; Amejo Amyot, Friday, Sept. 9, presenting Amejo Wyn Amyot’s “Spirt and Totem Animal” series.
