SARATOGA SPRINGS — SPAC’s grounds will be transformed into a festive celebration featuring individual pop-up performances by Empire State Youth Orchestra, Northeast Ballet Company, SPAC School of the Arts, Capital District Youth Chorale, and other select student ensembles from the Capital Region on June 5.
Following the theme Interdependence, inspired by Presidential Inaugural Poet and festival mentor Richard Blanco, the festival will celebrate the collaborative creativity of more than 500 of the Capital Region’s brightest young dancers, musicians, singers, poets, and visual artists all in support of SPAC’s mission to provide free access to enriching arts programs for local youth.
The Adirondack Trust Company Festival of Young Artists will return for its fifth annual event on Sunday, June 5 from 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., marking the first full-scale festival on the SPAC grounds since 2019.
“The pandemic and its many challenges over the past two years has underscored the need for programming and platforms that provide aspiring artists with a place to perform and create new art. Bringing Richard Blanco to SPAC to mentor and inspire our young artists has provided them with a once-in-lifetime opportunity,” said Elizabeth Sobol, President and CEO of Saratoga Performing Arts Center, in a statement. “We are grateful to The Adirondack Trust Company for their continued support, allowing us to bring back our full-scale festival.”
During the event, hundreds of young artists will gather to present a celebratory concert on SPAC’s main stage, featuring large-scale productions that combine music, song, poetry, visual art, and dance. The concert program will include a recitation of Richard Blanco’s “Declaration of Interdependence,” as well as celebrated works by John Williams, André J. Thomas, and Z. Randall Stroope and a finale dance.
This event is free to the community; however, registration is required for admission; visit spacfoya.org for details.
