Flamenco Concert 

National Museum of Dance, 99 S. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 7 p.m.

Alegria Ensemble will present an evening of provocative rhythms, spirit and duende.

The Alegria Ensemble consists of Maria Zemantauski - guitar, Jose Miralles - guitar, Monica Roach - cello, Jeff Michael - percussion and special guest flamenco dancer “La Nina.”  The Alegria Ensemble has been described by music critics as “an elegantly understated global music ensemble.” With a repertoire that is influenced by both tradition and innovation, the Spanish guitar remains at the center of their sophisticated sound. This special program will feature traditional Spanish and Flamenco songs and dances. St. Paul’s Food Drive

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The youth of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will be holding a food drive to benefit the St. Paul’s Food Pantry. This drive will be a part of the annual 30 Hour Famine, an event where our youth pledge to go without food for 30 hours; in order to raise funds and awareness for people who go without food every day. If you would like to contribute to our food drive, donations can be dropped off at the church.  Donations to the pantry can be dropped off weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thank you for helping us take care of those in need in our community.   

8th Annual Appreciation Day and Parade for Malta Military, Veterans and First Responders

Residents and participants are set to gather to honor Armed Forces Day with an annual parade and ceremony. This year, the beginning of the parade will stop at the Town Hall where a brief ceremony will be conducted to honor the lives lost on 9/11, as well as those who continue to fight for our freedom. The ceremony will include the dedication of a portion of a steel beam that was once a part of the World Trade Center. The parade will then continue south through the roundabout and turn right on Blacksmith Drive. Please view the website at www.maltaparksrec.com for parade route and detour map.

Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet. William H. Payne, Vietnam veteran and Civil War re-enactor, will be the program speaker. Bill is the author two post-Civil War mysteries, The Veteran in a New Field and The Sharpshooter on Picket Duty. Monthly Indoor Craft and Garage Sale 

Saratoga Wilton Elks,  1 Elks Lane, Saratoga Springs, 11a.m. - 3 p.m. 

Admission is free with over 40 vendors; parking is great, bargains galore, lunch, books, household items, sports equipment, hand-made items, clothing,  jewelry, party vendors, pet supplies and just about anything you can imagine may be found here.  New vendors are signing up every month. Cancer Support Group 

Saratoga Hospital, 211 Church St., Saratoga Springs, Noon – 1 p.m.

The cancer support group, regardless of the type of cancer one faces, is a safe container to explore common physical, financial, emotional, cognitive, developmental, familial and spiritual issues. Skills of resiliency, empathy, “being seen and understood,” are addressed. Inter-connectedness, intimacy, and new attitudes and possibilities are cultivated to face and release feelings of isolation, confusion, anxiety and day-to-day uncertainties in a group of people with similar wishes to improve the quality of their lives. Pierre Zimmerman, who facilitates this group, has been working with people who have cancer for the last 12 years, leading support groups, mindfulness based stress reduction programs and spiritual retreats. Pierre is a survivor of stage 4 cancer, diagnosed in 2001 and given a few months to live. He has been dedicating a large part of his life since then to supporting people on their journeys with cancer.  Call Pierre at (413) 992-7012 to register and confirm — as schedule may be subject to change.

NYS Blues Hall of Fame inductee Sonny Speed will be hosting the evening for SABS.                         

This month’s featured artist is Robin O’Herrin, specializing in Delta and Piedmont blues and gospel. She brings this seminal music into the present. This is a monthly event on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Come on down to listen and or play the Blues.

Matty’s Mountain

Christine McDonald Community Room, Crandall Library, Glens Falls. 7 p.m.

Dr. Graham Cox will present a talk on “Matty’s Mountain” for the monthly program of the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society.  Dr. Cox will focus his talk on developing a forest stewardship plan to encourage birds and other wildlife. Matty’s Mountain is a 172 -acre tract, surrounded by the Berry Pond state forest unit. A forest management plan that puts maintaining water quality and creating a wildlife habitat at the top of their stewardship objectives has been developed for this tract. Dr. Cox invites you to discuss creating early successional habitat to suit forest bird species with some area examples. When in due course Matty’s Mountain is open to public use, visitors will find the area rich in wildlife. This program is free and open to the public. Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

The City of Saratoga Springs invites you to the 2016 Memorial Day Parade and Commemorative Ceremony. Join with our local veteran groups and organizations to honor all those lost in service to our country. There will be a closing ceremony at the cemetery. Highlights include: local organizations including the police and fire departments, local marching bands from all across Saratoga County, and vintage and classic cars.
