MALTA -- On Sept. 22, the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) joined with the Commercial and Industrial Real Estate Brokers (CIREB) and the Town of Malta to highlight four current buildings and sites for commercial business investment. The breakfast event was part of SEDC’s Advance Saratoga strategy focused on the expansion of building and infrastructure capacity for new investment.
Town officials featured an overview of updated zoning and planning policies designed to attract commerce to key areas, expand the local tax base and create jobs. The event was attended by over 100 leading Capital Region commercial brokers and business leaders at the Hyatt Place off Exit 12 of the Northway. Leading a panel discussion were Gary Dake, president of Stewart’s Corporation with headquarters in Malta; Tony Tozzi, Malta building and planning director; Vince DeLucia, Malta supervisor; and Tim Dunn, Malta councilman and chair of the Economic Development Committee.
SEDC and CIREB were pleased to have J. Gregory Connors, the U.S. government affairs spokesman for Global Foundries, provide an update for the town of Malta on commercial investment opportunities and town planning policies. Connors spoke of Global Foundries’ experience investing in Saratoga County and the greater-than-anticipated financial impact of facilities development, job creation, education and community support from the start of work in 2009. Connors also credited New York’s commitment to cutting edge research and educational institutions under SUNY as well as SEDC’s leadership creating the Luther Forest Technology Campus as the two key reasons they are invested here.
