Saratoga Springs, NY - Eleanor Leone Cannell Moyer passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord surrounded by her loving family at home December 7, 2011. She was 85 years old.
Born February 3, 1926, in Malden, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Jackson and Irene Cannell. Eleanor graduated in 1944 from the Robert W. Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine. She married David Moyer in 1950 and moved to Saratoga Springs in 1963. Eleanor’s greatest joy in life was her work as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was the beloved mother of seven children, grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother to 13 children. Eleanor passed to all of these children a deep love and appreciation for the beauty of nature, a religious education and the support of a strong family bond. Eleanor was the hostess of joyful backyard family get-togethers, holiday dinners, boating adventures and trips to the beach in Maine. She was an exceptional grandmother who cared for many of her grandchildren before and after school, held tea parties under the dining room table, attended every concert, many sporting events and was a constant source of love and support. Eleanor enjoyed neighborhood walks with friends, was an avid reader and traveled the country with David, enjoying visits with relatives and friends along the way. She was a member of the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church and served as a church school teacher there and in the Ballston Spa Presbyterian Church for 15 years. She was also a volunteer at the Wesley Health Care Center for many years.
In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was predeceased by sisters, Nancy and Betty and their brother, Jackson.
Eleanor is survived by her seven children and their families, Kim, Scott and Carly Dellis; Jack and Susan Moyer; Andrea and Tom Green; Irene Powell; Linda and Don Bowden; Patricia and Harold Grace; and David and Deborah Moyer.
Eleanor’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation to her companions, Polly Clements, Jaimie Myers, Liz Benton and Lisa Lane, who have provided Eleanor with many hours of loving companionship and support. Our appreciation to the Community of Saratoga Hospice nurses Tammy Czajkowski and Kelli Foley for the important work that they do.
A memorial celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, Henning Road, with a reception to follow.
Burial will be private in the family plot at Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave., Saratoga Springs.
