Assistant Police Chief Eugene J. Cole
SARATOGA SPRINGS – Former Saratoga Springs Assistant Police Chief Eugene J. Cole, 75, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born on May 19, 1941 in Saratoga Springs, he is a son of the late Maurice and Mildred (Greene) Cole and was a lifelong resident. A 1960 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, he participated in football and basketball, having been various teams’ captain and a member of the All-Star teams. An avid sports fan, he was a longtime supporter of the NY Giants, Mets and Notre Dame football, and his many interests included horse racing and owning several standard-bred horses. Long active in community and civic groups, he volunteered with numerous Pop Warner teams in the city and was a former member of Saratoga-Wilton B.P.O. Elks Lodge 161, having served as Exalted Ruler in 1981. He was also a Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and a past Old Timer of the Year in 2001. Gene was also an honorary life third degree member of Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus.
He was appointed as an officer for the city’s police department and retired as Assistant Police Chief after 30 years of service. He also managed security for SPAC from 1965 to 2001 and operated Pyramid Security Services and later Command Security.
Survivors include his former spouse and lifelong friend, Carolyn M. Boulet; three children, Jeanna M. Burdick (Dean), Christopher J. Cole both of Saratoga Springs and Deborah A. Munroe (William) of Parrish, FL; five grandchildren, Jerod Delaney, Ian Delaney, Andrea Cole, Victoria Cole, Gabrielle Staulters and three great-grandchildren, Blake, Dawson and Cooper.
Relatives and friends gathered to remember him on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at the William J. Burke and Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes of Saratoga Springs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Burke Funeral Home and burial will follow in Gansevoort Cemetery.
