Mary Ann Norton
SARATOGA SPRINGS – Mary Ann Norton, a resident of Prestwick Chase and, most recently, the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs, passed away at Saratoga Hospital on September 4, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was 83 years old.
Born on December 3, 1932, in Rockaway Beach, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rosario Paul Loiello and Mary Agnes Butler Loiello.
Mary Ann married her husband, Corodon Joseph (Bee, Buzz) Norton, on June 27, 1953. They shared a wonderful married life for over 63 years, raising six children in homes in Central Islip and Porter Corners.
Mary Ann worked as a postal clerk for many years at various NY post offices including Central Islip, Porter Corners, Middle Grove, and the Carl Company. Mary Ann also pursued higher education while working at the post office and provided a wonderful home to her husband and children. Mary Anne achieved an Associate's degree in Accounting from Adirondack Community College in 1981.
Mary Ann and "Bee" retired to Florida in 1990 where they enjoyed the beach at Destin and Blue Water Bay. Her family was blessed to have her back in Saratoga Springs over the past few years where they could enjoy her company and all the gifts this area has to offer.
Mary Ann will be remembered by friends and family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who shared her beautiful smile freely. She was a welcoming woman who loved a great conversation and story. Mary Ann was happiest when providing a wonderful meal or event for her loved ones and there was always room for one more at the table. Mary Ann was also brave and stoic. She battled cancer successfully and managed to live a full life while on dialysis these past 3½ years.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Greenfield Center. Mary Ann received great comfort from the Church and the friends she made there. She loved cooking, gardening and reading but her greatest enjoyment came from being the proud mother of her six children and many grandchildren.
Mary Ann is predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence P. Loiello and John P. Loiello.
Survivors include her husband, Corodon, of Saratoga Springs, four sons, Corodon J. Norton Jr. of Fremont, California, Christopher P. (Deb) Norton of Houston, Texas, Gregory J Norton (Eileen) of Sloansville, NY and Matthew M. Norton (Linda) of Saratoga Springs, and two
daughters, Anita Phillips (Patrick) of Saratoga Springs and Andrea L Smith (Thad) of Saratoga Springs, eleven grandchildren, Laura, Liana, Natalie Norton, Evan and Aaron Phillips, Erin and Nicholas Norton, Darryl and Colin Nevins, Katie McGuigan, Joshua Norton, and Corodon (Cory) Norton, 2 step-grandchildren; Lindsay and Ian (Phillips), one great-grandchild, Fiona, and two step-great-grandchildren, Griffin and Cooper.
Mary Ann benefited from the life-saving treatment she received from the staff of the Rubin Dialysis Center and from the friendships she developed there and with her care team. Special thanks to Vicky Phillips, Dr. Hoy and Dr. Hogan, her friend Jim Fisher and recently at Saratoga Hospital, Jessica, Lexi and Art. Our family cannot express enough appreciation for each of you and the dialysis staff whom we do not know by name but know were instrumental in Mary Ann's care over the past few years. Mary Ann appreciated each of you.
