Myles E. Fitzgerald
SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Myles E. Fitzgerald, 97, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016 at his home.
Born on Sept. 13, 1918 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Martin and Katherine (O’Toole) Fitzgerald. He was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and the Boston Trade Institute in Boston, MA. Myles served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in West Point. After his service he worked at Madison Square Garden and later as a grounds keeper at St. Clement’s Church in Saratoga Springs. Through the years Myles was employed by several companies including General Electric, Ernie Jacobie Oil, Container Corporation and Harder Silo. He later started one of the first salvage yards in the area as well as Fitzgerald’s Used Parts Garage.
In addition to his parents, Myles was predeceased by his first wife Lydia (Senical), 1942 to 1952 and his second wife Norma (Green), 1959 to 2009; two brothers, William and Martin; two sisters Anne McCarthy and Margaret Mary Baines and a step-daughter Rita Taylor.
Survivors include his children, Madeline (Kathy) and Lawrence Radford of NH, Myles Jr., (Buzzy) and Cindy of Saratoga Springs, Beverly and Willis Cottrell of Saratoga Springs, Lydia (Bonnie) Raccasecca of South Glens Falls, Colleen and Rick Quigley of Ticonderoga, Patricia Fitzgerald and Brian of Williston,VT; step-son William Taylor of South Glens Falls; seven grandchildren, Lawrence and Ronald Radford and Brenda Smith all of NH, Christine and Frank Whittenauer of CT, Tiffaney Lamara and Courtney Quigley of Ticonderoga, Christopher and Dawn Cottrell of Greenwich; six great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Smith, Carrie and Kate Whittenauer, Lucas and Corey Cottrell as well as several nieces and nephews.
There were no calling hours; graveside services were held on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave. in Saratoga Springs.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Visiting Nurses Home Care staff for all of their kind and loving care that was given to Myles. Also many thanks to St Michaels Church and Father Tony for all their patience and kindness as well as the Iron Gate Practice, Dr. Thomas Coppens and Myles’ two nurses, Kathy and Patti.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke and Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs.
