A bill drafted by Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg was on its third reading in the House earlier this week, and after Gov. Cuomo's announcement, is expected to pass on Monday. The bill will ensure that if the state can't generate enough savings and efficiencies to avoid reducing payment rates to providers, some of the budget cut will be rolled back. The bill has 146 Assembly sponsors along with many other sponsors in the Senate.
Executive Director of Saratoga Bridges, Valerie Muratori, said earlier in the week that the organization was "in limbo" as they received little communication from the state as to when or how their budget cuts should be implemented. When the Assembly bill passes next week as expected, employees of Saratoga Bridges will have the freedom to hire new mid-management positions they have been holding onto in the wake of the budget cuts earlier this year.
In an earlier article published by Saratoga TODAY this week, Muratori said Saratoga Bridges has "held onto budgeted positions that were not direct support positions" along with the mid-management positions they were waiting to fill. Other managers were picking up the responsibilities and working extra hours, Muratori said, until they knew what the state was going to do with the cuts.
The bill that will restore the $90 million in funding is expected to pass in the Assembly Monday, June 17. The end of the legislature session is Thursday, June 20.
