Stewart L. Moll

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Stewart L. Moll, 81, passed away at home peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 2.

Born in Stillwater on January 20, 1933, he was the son of the late Myer and Beatrice Aldrich Moll. He attended Mechanicville High School and went on to serve in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. Upon returning, Stewart attended SUNY at Albany. He worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad as a yard foreman for 32 years before transferring to Amtrak until his retirement in 1996.

When Stewart entered a room his presence was known. His infectious smile and vivacious personality took you in and you took that part of him with you. During his retirement Stewart and his wife Sandy were snow birds for 18 years in Port Charlotte, Florida where they came alive. When they were home in Saratoga Springs he loved his garden and pond.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Warren Moll and his wife, Marie, and Leland Moll, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Stewart is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra E. Barry Moll; two children, Barry S. Moll (Angela) of Brick Township, New Jersey and Wendy E. Loukes (Kevin) of Charlton; three sisters, Sylvia Fitzpatrick (Joseph) of Hemstreet Park, Joyce Rousselle, of Saratoga Springs, Mary Ellen Amann, (Albert) of Mechanicville; one brother, William Moll (Carol) of Clifton Park; one sister-in-law, Sandra A. Moll of Bemis Heights; seven grandchildren, Kelly Flynn of Ballston Lake, Jordan Moll (Laura) and Travis Moll all of Dallas, Texas, Marcell Christian (Kyle) of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Amy E. Loukes of Charlton, Virginia Sanchez of Cape May, New Jersey and Patrick Moll of Brick Township, New eJersey; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 7 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 155 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12210 or the V.A. Hospital, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.

John Minot Swersky

SARATOGA SPRINGS — John Swersky, 46, passed away on Saturday, March 29 at Saratoga Hospital.

He was born on October 16, 1967 in Northampton Massachusetts, the son of David and Jane Fleming Swersky.

John, a graduate of the Riverdale Country School, attended Skidmore College and enjoyed reading, listening to music, philosophizing and taking long walks in nature.

John is survived by his father and step mother David and Jayne Swersky and his two half siblings, as well as a half-sister Blaine Dunham Birchby.

He is preceded in death by his mother Jane Fleming and his life companion Nina Martino.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave, (Route 9), Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Compassionate Funeral Care, Saratoga Springs, New York.

Interment following the service will be at Greenridge Cemetery, Saratoga Springs, New York, 128660.

Dr. James B. Dorsey

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Dr. James B. Dorsey, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 29 with his loving family by his side.

Born on August 29, 1927 in Saratoga Springs, he is the son of the late Francis E. Dorsey, Sr. and Katherine (Baker) Dorsey. His grandfather, the late Fred H. Baker, was the founder of Baker Manufacturing Corporation, known today as Espey Manufacturing and Electronics Corps. Mr. Baker was also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Adirondack Trust Company.

Dr. Dorsey attended Saratoga Springs public schools and upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy V-5 Aviation Cadet program. Following his service duty, he completed undergraduate studies at Brown University. He received his Juris Doctor degree at Albany Law School and practiced law with his father, the late Francis E. Dorsey, Sr. His greatest desire however, was to become a doctor of medicine. He graduated from New York Medical College in New York City and completed his internship at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Connecticut. He then completed a three year residency in vascular surgery at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York City.

On June 10, 1950, he married the former Patricia Ann Walsh of Saratoga Springs. At that time, he was just completing law school. After receiving his law degree and medical degree, he was recognized as one of a few to achieve that distinction. He served on the surgical staff at Saratoga Hospital for over 25 years and was Saratoga County Coroner for three years. He practiced law with his son-in-law, John J. LaBoda and his son, James B. Dorsey, Jr.

A kind and generous physician, he loved the challenge of caring for his patients. As a civic minded person, he served on the Board of Directors of the Saratoga YMCA on Broadway. He was a member and president of the Saratoga County Historical Society, opening a broad interest in Saratoga mineral water bottles, and also the annual August Antique show held at the Casino.

Dr. Dorsey had many outside interests throughout his life away from medicine. He was an enthusiastic collector of rare Saratoga memorabilia. He enjoyed golf and tennis and especially quality vacation time with his wife and children. They all have fond memories of trips to Disney World, Cape Cod, Jamaica and Bermuda, as well as many European journeys that he and his wife shared. Dr. Dorsey was a past member of the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, Saratoga Reading Room, the Saratoga County Bar Association, the Saratoga County Medical Society and Sigma Chi Fraternity.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his loving daughter, Alison Golinski (Gary) and his only brother, Francis E. Dorsey, Jr.                                                 

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Patricia Walsh Dorsey; five children, Katherine (John) LaBoda, Mary L. Lee, Pamela (Bruce) Boghosian, Suzanne Dorsey and James B. Dorsey, Jr. (companion Nancy Ravena); seven grandchildren, John (Aubrey) LaBoda, Olivia LaBoda (fiancée Ryan O’Malley), Cheston Lee, Amanda Dugan, Darian (fiancée Cynthia) Boghosian, Megan Golinski and George Carlson and one great-grandchild, Darian Boghosian, Jr.

In his later years, Dr. Dorsey was stricken with Alzheimer’s Disease. During his last few years, he has been lovingly cared for by the compassionate staff at the Saratoga Hospital Care Nursing Home. To the young and old alike, he has been affectionately known as “Doc” throughout the hospital. Thank you all for the many smiles that you brought into his life.

Louise Lincoln Jordan

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Louise Lincoln Jordan, 72, a long-time resident of Saratoga Springs, died at her home on November 26, 2013 after a brief illness.

She was born on July 22, 1941 to the late Ruth Branson and Charles Waters Lincoln of Upper Montclair, New Jersey. She married William Louis Jordan on August 13, 1966.

Louise was a professional Interior Designer for over 40 years and was a 1963 graduate of the Parsons School of Design. She headed the design department of Hugh M. Keiser Associates in New York City and later initiated the Interior Design Group of C.T. Male and Associates before establishing her own practice in Saratoga Springs. Louise was noted for combining the visual elements of interior spatial design with the space planning and management of large projects for corporate headquarters, advertising and publishing houses, law firms and hotel and conference centers. Her clients included the Lake Placid Resort Club, the law firms of Paul, Weiss, Rifkin, Wharton and Garrison, and Davis, Polk and Wardwell, The Williams Companies, Grey Advertising Company, The Holland America Line, the Presidential Guest Quarters of the White House and Blair House in Washington, D.C.

Louise was an avid gardener and a longtime member and past President of the Orenda Garden Club of Saratoga Springs. For many years she prepared wreaths and Christmas trees for sale at the Festival of Trees; all proceeds went to Catholic Charities. She was known for her willingness to share her enthusiasm and expertise in gardening and various crafts. Garden Club members have commemorated her service through a special donation to the Yadoo Gardens in Saratoga Springs.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents Ruth B. and Charles W. Lincoln and her sister Susan Branson Lincoln.

Louise is survived by her husband of 47 years, William L. Jordan of Saratoga Springs, and her brother, Thomas, and his wife, Maryann of Charlottesville, Virginia. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews of both the Lincoln and Jordan families.

Louise will be greatly missed by her family, friends, relatives, and neighbors.

John “Jack” Tuczynski

SARATOGA SPRINGS — John “Jack” Tuczynski, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 26.

Born on April 26, 1921 in Valatie, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Roginski) Tuczynski. He attended Martin H. Glynn High School and graduated from Ichabod Crane High School in 2009 through the Veteran’s Recognition program.

During World War II, Jack served proudly as a member of the U.S. Army’s 5307th Composite Unit, also known as Merrill’s Marauders, where he and his regiment were tasked with long range penetration of enemy lines during the Burma campaign. He was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He received the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal and Presidential Unit Citation.

Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Saratoga Wilton Elks #161, American Legion Post #0862 in Lake Luzerne, Greenfield Fire Company No. 1, Hadley Hunting Club and Robinwood Park. He was a volunteer at the Saratoga Hospital Nursing home for over 13 years with 4,884 accumulated hours of service.

Jack was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Amelia, his brothers Joseph, George, and Bill Tuczynski, his sisters Katherine O’Brien and “Babe” Egnasher, step children John and Arlene Holbrook and beloved great nephew and buddy Brock Tuczynski.

He is survived by four grandchildren, including Jackalyn Rongo, and five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including Buck, Kathy and their daughters Darcy and Reanna.

Jack was a friend to many and will be remembered for his happy nature, sense of humor and his endearing ability to develop lasting friendships wherever he went.

Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Funeral services will be immediately after at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at St. John’s Cemetery in Colonie.

Karen Bradshaw Leone

QUEENSBURY— Karen Bradshaw Leone, formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away mid-March, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Karen graduated from St. Peter’s Academy and attended Empire State College. She started her career as a secretary at Empire State College and then went to work for the NYS Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMDD). She was a member of several organizations including treasurer of the Tupper Lake Business and Professional Women’s Club and was on the board of directors of the Sunmount Federal Credit Union while working in Tupper Lake. Karen retired as the Business Officer at the Valley Ridge Center in Norwich, NY in 2006.

Survivors include her son, Tanner, who was her pride and joy; her beloved feline companion, Mookie; her brother, Shawn Bradshaw of Greenfield Center and his partner Kathy Fasoli; her mother, Teresa Bradshaw of Saratoga Springs; and her dear and best friend George Baber of Clifton Park.

She was predeceased by several aunts and uncles.

The family wishes to thank the Glens Falls Hospital, especially the doctors from CW Wood Cancer Center, Hospice, and is extremely grateful for the wonderful care given by the staff at the House of Grace.

There will be no calling hours and a private oceanside ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family.

Marion Motyka

BALLSTON SPA — Marion Motyka passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Maplewood Manor. She was 99.

Born on May 30, 1914 in Utica, she was the daughter of the late John and Tekla (Wajda) Motyka.

In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by her sister, Marie Corrigan and two brothers, Philip and Walter Motyka.

Survivors include her brother, Edward Motyka of Ballston Spa and one nephew, Dr. Gregg Corrigan of Bettendorf, Iowa.

Burial will be in the family plot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica.

Dominic Galluscio

GARDEN CITY — Thoroughbred Race Horse Trainer Dominic Galluscio, 55, of Garden City, passed away March 17 from pancreatic cancer.

Born October 6, 1958, Galluscio went on to attend St. Dominic Elementary School and Germantown Central School where he graduated Class of 1976.

He began his career while in Germantown Central School, working at Clermont Farms under trainer Mike Hernandez. Upon graduation, he moved to Long Island where he eventually established his own professional racing stable.

His 34-year career at the NYRA tracks included winning 1,047 races and becoming one of the Top 100 Horse Trainers in the nation.

At the age of 18, Galluscio moved to Belmont Park where he started his career and began his rise to become one of the Top 10 Trainers in New York for the past decade. He became a champion for the backstretch workers and for the less privileged.

Although known mainly as a shrewd claiming trainer, he was great with developing young horses and conditioned many to win major stakes including the Empire classic with Organizer in 2006 and Dr. V’s Magic in 2007.

Galluscio rewarded his horses’ owners with more than $31.3 million in earnings. His best runner was the Virginia-bred Lord of the Night, who in 1989 swept the Aqueduct Handicap, the Toboggan and the Westchester Handicap. He defeated the regally bred Dancing Spree, who would take the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint that fall.

Galluscio was predeceased by his mother, Dolores, and father, Dominic Galluscio.

He is survived by his daughter, Dominique Galluscio; brothers Robert (Denise) Galluscio, Raymond (Kate) Galluscio, Joseph Galluscio and Gerald (Joanne) Galluscio; sisters, Marie (Larry) Britt and Denise (Lloyd) cote; nieces and newphews, Robie, Steven and Lynn Galluscio, Tiffany and Elise Britt, Gerard and Michelle Beebe, Grasie Mercedes, Jolee Sabella, Genna and Dominic Galluscio and Katie Bella Galluscio.

He is also remembered by his dear friends Gary and Gina Gullo, and Linda Rice.

Col. Walter J. Kmen

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Col. Walter J. Kmen passed away Sunday, March 23 at the age of 90.

He was born in Saratoga Springs on November 6, 1923 and graduated from Saratoga High in 1941 while lettering in varsity football. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet in 1942. He graduated from advanced flight training in 1944 and received his pilot wings. As a 1st lieutenant for the 15th AAF he flew 50 missions during World War II while stationed in Italy, including two missions to the Ploesti oil fields as well as missions to Munich, Vienna, Bucharest and Budapest. He earned the Air Medal for completed combat missions and the Distinguished Flying Cross for landing his B-24 (four-engine) bomber on only two engines.

Upon returning home from the war, Walter attended Skidmore College from 1946-48 and completed his DDS degree from the University of Buffalo Dental School in 1952. He spent 27 years working at the VA Hospital in Albany, while at the same time spending 27 years in the Army Reserves 364th General Hospital based in Albany. All told, he had 40 years of military time and earned the rank of full Colonel.

After retirement he spent his time doing what he loved, including hunting in the Adirondacks with his brother Fred and playing poker with his friends one Sunday a month for over 50 years. He enjoyed his summers playing golf with his wife and family, gardening, and never missing an opening day at the racetrack.

Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will truly be missed.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Susan Kmen; his children, Walter R. Kmen, Nancy Kmen Valencourt, Mark Kmen and his wife Christine, Stephen Pincher and his wife Maryfran, and Jennifer Kmen Chaloupka and her husband Scott. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Morgaine, Sedona, Braeden, and Maksm.

Elaine N. Caponi

 

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Elaine N. Caponi of Woodlawn Commons died peacefully on Thursday March 20 at Wesley Health Care Center. She was 88 years old.
She was born on March, 24, 1925, in Burlington, Vermont and was the daughter of the late Beatrice Spydell Newton.
Elaine married her husband John on June 15, 1957 at St Mary's Church in Waterford. John and Elaine lived on Dugan Hill Road, Maltaville, in Malta for 46 years before moving to Saratoga Heritage Apartments in Wilton then to Woodlawn Commons, Saratoga Springs.
She worked as aMarketing and Communications Manager for General Electric Silicone Plant in Waterford until her retirement in 1986.
Elaine was an avid reader throughout her life. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband John, two sons, Ronald and Jeffrey Pintuff, a daughter Sue Caponi, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren and her cat Sarah.
Graveside services are scheduled for May 12 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Waterford.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Elaine's name to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter (SCAS), 6010 County Farm Rd, Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
