33rd Annual Victorian Streetwalk: Dec. 5

Thursday night, December 5, is a magical night in downtown Saratoga Springs. It’s the 33rd Annual Victorian Streetwalk, brought to you by the Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association with Co-sponsors MVP Health Care, Mackey Auto Group, Saratoga Springs Special Assessment District, Saratoga CoWorks & drb Business Interiors. The event takes place in downtown Saratoga Springs from 6 to 9 p.m. Broadway will close from 5 to 9 p.m. from the Route 50 arterial to the Spring Street intersection.

CDTA, a festival Gold Sponsor, will be running free shuttle buses every 20 minutes from the following Silver Sponsor locations: Empire State College parking lot at 111 West Avenue on the west side of Saratoga Springs; NYRA’s Oklahoma track just off Exit 14 of I-87, Gate 21 on the corner of East Ave and Union Ave; the National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame on South Broadway; and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center parking lot on Rt. 50. These shuttles will run to and from downtown from 4:30 until 9 p.m.

The Racing City Chorus will serenade the crowd surrounding the holiday trees at Putnam Market beginning at 5:45 p.m. as the children await Santa and Mrs. Claus’s arrival by horse and carriage (courtesy of Saratoga Casino Hotel). The Honorable Mayor Meg Kelly will light the trees at 6 p.m. Immediately following the tree lighting will be the start of the Santa Parade, featuring the Avant Garde Alumni Drum Line and Color Guard kicking off the evening starting at the City Center, playing all the way down Broadway. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be escorted in by Santa’s elves, the Dance Factory of Saratoga and performers from the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs.

Santa, Clara, elves and Rumple Dumple will visit with children throughout the evening in the beautiful Santa Cottage which will be located at the center of Broadway. The opportunity for visits with Santa in the Santa Cottage will begin on December 5 and continue throughout the month.

Enjoy over 40 sites with free entertainment, including live music, Living Nativity, Catholic Charities Festival of Trees, Santa and Mrs. Claus, Toy Soldier, face painting, magic, balloon art and more. Strolling amidst the crowds will be the cast from the Homemade Theatre’s, It’s a Wonderful Life; Carolers from Galway Players; Ebeneezer Scrooge and Company from The Christmas Carol Experience; and Victorian Carolers.

Co-sponsor Mackey Auto Group will be showcasing three new vehicle models, The New Faces of Ford and Subaru in the Capital Region. Co-sponsor MVP Health Care will offer a “Warming Station” including cozy and fun giveaways.

Stop by the Post Office with your stamped Christmas card envelopes, get them canceled with the specially designed 33rd Anniversary Victorian Streetwalk cancellation (free) and you have a month to mail them.

The festivities continue until 9 p.m. throughout downtown Saratoga Springs. Don’t miss out on this wonderful holiday event for the whole family!
