Saratoga Springs, NY – Norman R. Brown passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Wesley Health Care Center, with his beloved wife, Ellen, at his side.
Born October 12, 1926, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late I. Reed and Isabelle Dake Brown. Norm graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1944 and was an alumnus of Temple University in Philadelphia. Norman returned to Saratoga County after college and became partners with his father at the I. Reed Brown Insurance Agency, which was established in Ballston Spa in 1928. Norm took over the agency when his father retired in 1952. He had a successful insurance and real estate business which he sold in 1990 when he retired. He considered all of his clients as friends. All of his life, he had a deep love for Saratoga County and the surrounding region, often referring to its natural beauty and real estate as acres of diamonds in our own backyard. Norm was very active in his community serving as President of Saratoga Board of Realtors in 1970, Realtor of the Year in 1971, past president of the Ballston Spa Rotary Club and a member of Saratoga Springs Rotary Club receiving The Paul Harris Award, past treasurer and one of the founders of the Brookside Museum, past president of Ballston Spa PTA, member of the Saratoga County Boy Scout Council and Council of the Salvation Army, past treasurer of the Christian Science Church in Saratoga Springs and member of the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club.
In addition to his parents, Norm is predeceased by his sister, Jeanette Darling.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen; children, Cheryl (Dennis) Lohse and Kenneth (Kelly) Brown; grandchildren, Kate and Lauren Brown; brother-in-law, Frank Darling; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
Norman’s family is deeply grateful for the many kindnesses of friends and neighbors, and the caring work of Saratoga Hospital and Wesley Health Care staff and physicians.
